ONGOING PROGRAMS:
Long Island Philharmonic's Arts-in-Education program presents "Forbidden Music,"
with the LI Philharmonic String Quartet and mezzo-soprano Laila Salins. This multi-media presentation tells the story of how the arts thrived during one of history's darkest times. Listen to music written inside Nazi concentration camps by Jewish composers, many of whom perished. Discover the power of the spirit over oppression through the composers and their music as well as the artists and poets of the camps and their works. Learn about censorship, propaganda, resistance, and survival by studying the role the arts played in this historic period. Includes moving visual arts presentation.

The program includes tango music of Osvaldo Pugliese; Eric Salzman's suite "La Bonne Ame de Setchouan (Bertolt Brecht)"; Latvian drinking songs and tangos (arranged by Laila Salins); and accordion music written for and by Bill Schimmel.
